FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a competition that combines science, technology, and the excitement of sports into a team-building experience. Students and mentors get to learn all about how to design and build a robot of their own to complete a series of challenges. They compete in tournaments around the globe against thousands of teams to place at the World Championship. Past competitions have included getting a robot to kick a soccer ball and lifting balls over high bars.
At Souhegan High School, we are team 138-Entropy. Team Entropy has been around for 16 years! Everyone from grades 9 to 12 can participate. We include a wide variety of people: soccer captains, actors, musicians, athletes, artists, writers, and more. We practice at Monarch Instruments, right behind Wal-Mart, and because of this, provoke all sorts of community involvement.
Team Entropy competes every year in Manchester at the regionals and has in the past gone to Atlanta, GA, for the nationals. We have won all sorts of awards including many Autodesk Visual Awards, Saber Awards, and Finalist in Granite State Regional. It is such a successful program, we now have students who started out as a team member, and are now a professional engineer.
The team is broken down into five specific teams: Electrical, Mechanical, Programming, Animation, and Business Management. Each have their own individual purpose to help out the team, but all of them our needed for success. Does this sound interesting? Which team would you want to be on?
