The Souhegan High School FIRST Robotics Team number 138 – known as “Entropy” – represents a group of students in grades 9 through 12 interested in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. Souhegan High School, the parent institution, serves the towns of Amherst and Mont Vernon, New Hampshire. With the help of adult mentors and sponsors, the team builds a robot to compete in the yearly FIRST Robotics Competition, and a second robot to practice on after the build season is done. Every year we have to design and create a robot in 6 weeks, after those six weeks are done, we put the competition robot in a bag, and store it until the competition. During the build season we build two identical robots, one to compete with, and one to practice on and continue improving after build season is done. Throughout our many years of operation, we have earned multiple awards.
The foremost goal of the SHS robotics team is to create an experience that encourages students to pursue exciting career opportunities in the science, mathematics, or engineering fields. Partnering with professional engineers & scientists, the team coaches and mentors provide positive role models and creates an environment to build self-confidence. Every student is exposed to important life skills such as commitment, leadership, problem solving, teamwork, and time management. All of our robots are student inspired and student built. Most importantly, everyone has fun!
